WWE Superstar John Cena has had quite a 2015, and his 2016 looks to be bright, as well. He will be part of now two movies that will come out this year, as the comic hit Trainwreck surprised with big numbers this summer with John Cena standing out for his hilarious performance. He is now playing a supporting role as a drug dealer in the new Tina Fey and Amy Poehler film, called Sisters.

He is now on his last bit of filming for a new FOX Network series called American Grit that will appear on the network this Spring. Cena is clearly getting a ton of offers to do different things in the entertainment world, and may only continue to get offers. This is leading many to wonder if Cena will leave WWE for good when his contract with the company comes up.

While John Cena is expected back by December 28 for WWE RAW in Brooklyn, New York, he does not appear to be doing a lot after the first of the year. Clearly, Cena will be working the WWE Royal Rumble and the most likely person we’ll see him face is Alberto Del Rio for the WWE United States Championship that he lost to him back in October, on Del Rio’s first night back in the company.

There is also a rumor that Cena could be working to a lighter schedule soon. With Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Cesaro all going down for months due to various injuries, WWE needs John Cena now more than ever in the lead-up to WrestleMania 32. The idea is that WWE may have Cena work all major television events, but he will end up having a smaller live event schedule added for the rest of his WWE run. Unlike people such as Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels, who took months off and came back full time, Cena seems to be willing to work all television and PPVs for WWE, but would simply work less on the road after that.

This could be helpful to his potential Hollywood career, as Cena will be able to work with WWE like normal and would be part of all needed storylines. However, he’d have a good 4 to 5 days to do whatever else he wanted, which would open him up to work a lot more stuff. People like The Rock were given special contracts that allowed for significant time off.

Cena US Title [Image via WWE] WWE may allow Cena to do something similar, but due to Cena telling people for years that he would never leave like The Rock did, it does make sense to think that he will take only small bits of time off like he is now. This is only two months or so that he took for himself, but due to the various injuries WWE has suffered through, Cena is needed to help now more than ever. Fans have asked for others to get a chance over John Cena for years, but now the same people clamor to see him back due to what the current crop is doing. While there may not always be a “need” for John Cena in WWE, there may always be a want. WWE will use him as much as possible, and due to who he is and the status he carries, WWE can throw him into anything and it would work for them.

John Cena’s WWE return could not happen at a better time for WWE. However, do not expect WWE to focus on him completely once he returns. Cena looks to be going straight into the mid-cards, but we can expect those rivalries to be elevated simply because Cena is involved.
